Disneyland while pregnant

Is this going to be any fun…. of course, it is, it is Disneyland! I went to Disneyland three times while pregnant and by far the hardest was when I was in the first trimester. So tired.

If you are even considering going to Disneyland I recommend downloading the Disneyland app. One great feature is that you can filter rides that may have a pregnancy advisory, also can do it here on the website. Then you can use your discretion after talking with your medical provider about what rides may or may not be appropriate.

Disneyland rides with pregnancy advisory:

  • Autopia
  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Gadget’s Go Coaster
  • Hyperspace Mountain
  • Indiana Jones Adventure
  • Matterhorn Bobsleds
  • Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Splash Mountain
  • Star Tours

California Adventure rides with pregnancy advisory:

  • Goofy’s Sky School
  • Grizzly River Run
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
  • Incredicoaster
  • Radiator Springs

The first trimester can be hard, especially if nausea and fatigue is happening.

  • Stay at a close hotel- this makes it easier to go back for a mid-day nap.
  • Be prepared- you will feel pregnant but won’t look pregnant so nobody will know but you.
  • Enjoy all the food!-Do you have a better excuse to indulge for a few days on churros, corndogs and all the great treats in Disneyland.

The second trimester is a great time to visit Disneyland. You may or may not be showing and hopefully, any nausea and fatigue will have improved.

  • Stay within walking distance- you probably are feeling pretty good and walking to and from the park won’t be too bad. The Howard-Johnson is a great option (I review hotels here).
  • Show off that baby bump- everyone in Disneyland is happy so enjoy all the smiles and congratulations.
  • Continue eating all the food!- Again any excuse to enjoy all the treats 🙂

The third trimester is still a great time to visit Disneyland (are you seeing a pattern here, not sure there is a bad time to visit). This trip is likely easiest with another adult to help with the kiddo.

  • Hotel within walking distance – probably will be feeling pretty okay and getting that daily exercise will help with all the treats you will be consuming 😉
  • Don’t overdo it- having another adult makes this easy, enjoy slowing down and taking in the people watching.
  • Plan something special – if you are with kiddo this might be the last trip until the new baby arrives. Consider a special character breakfast, a special sit down meal or something else to commemorate the trip based on family interests.

Bumpin along:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Wear comfortable shoes

Staying informed on resort happenings

Being informed prior to your trip can help make it a magical time. Disney offers some great opportunities to assist in planning ahead.

Disneyland blog – This is the official Disney blog for all the theme parks. You can filter by park and get updates about park happenings. It is a great source of information especially for yearly events like halloween time and holiday time along with all the food offerings.

Park Hours Calendar – Here you will find park hours along with entertainment schedules, attractions closed for refurbishment, and magic morning/extra magic hour schedules. They are posted up to 60 days out which can help during those last few weeks of planning. (You can also find estimated park hours here.)

I hope that this site will also help you in staying informed while planning your magical visit.

Star Wars Galaxy Edge

We got to enjoy Star Wars Galaxy Edge in October 2019. We visited with our 5-year-old and 4 months old girls. Read on for tips and experiences.

Best time to visit:

  • Avoid rushing to the land if it is a morning with Disneyland Magic Morning. We rode the Millenium falcon on a Sunday (no Disney magic morning) and the wait was 20 minutes. (You can plan ahead by checking the calendar for days with Magic Morning here.) We went back on a Disneyland magic morning and waited 45 minutes! Lesson learned – check the app later in the day during the magic morning Disneyland days and sometimes the wait is 30 minutes or less!
  • Oga’s Cantina is neat although the 45 minutes time limit does feel a bit rushed. A great time to visit is during the time that spans the breakfast options and the later lunch options. This allows you to have a coffee drink as well as a beer if you are interested. This can be a special treat for kiddo – our daughter loved her special star wars drink. Fair warning it is quite loud. If you are waiting for a booth be aware it can be a bit longer of a wait and you will be sat with another group. The booths are big enough for a group of 12.
    • Don’t forget reservations which are now available 60 days out.

Enjoy walking around the land, it truly does feel quite immersive and is well done.

Character experiences – This is something really special about the land. Characters are just out and about. Chewbacca is frequently near Millenium Falcon and we also saw Ray. The stormtroopers can be seen at high vantage points which is quite fun.

The whole land is themed which can make it difficult to find things- use the Disneyland app!

Best Travel Tips

Traveling can be so stressful, especially when you add a toddler into the mix. Having a plan can decrease the anxiety that comes with traveling.

  • Under 2? I still recommend getting kiddo their own seat. Why? Because it saves your sanity and then you don’t have to check your car seat and worry about how it is treated. Budgeting your trip with the number of seats you will need down the road helps to create a sustainable trip 🙂
  • Speaking of car seats we have used two options to get through the airport. We have used this bag that carries the car seat like a back pack. A better option we have used is this car seat stroller. TSA will have the car seat go through the scanner if it will fit otherwise they will inspect it. Avoid an embarrassing situation and vacuum the car seat out prior to traveling, this will avoid littering the airport carpet with goldfish and other snacks.
  • Bring a stroller! We have brought our jogging stroller and check it at the gate. The downside to this stroller is it is big and and doesn’t always stay closed. We bought a strap off of amazon that helped. Be prepared to work with TSA during the screening process. This has been handled a number of different ways, sometimes they ask us to take the wheels off and send through the scanner and sometimes they just inspect it. It is annoying but just deal with it and get through the process.
  • Depending on the age of the little one the options for traveling through the airport are numerous
    • infant car seat in the stroller and then installed on the airplane
    • infant car seat in the stroller and kiddo in carrier with one parent
    • kiddo in stroller and convertible car seat in the backpack or on the car seat stroller
    • kiddo in car seat strapped to car seat stroller and pushing stroller that is holding carry ons.
    • AVOID letting kiddo walk until through TSA. Once checked bags are off loaded and through TSA the anxiety decreases and kiddo can walk through the airport.
  • TSA PRE-CHECK! sign up for this. This is amazing when traveling, the lines are usually shorter, no removing shoes, no removing ipads, no removing liquids. This is a lifesaver when traveling with kiddos.
